Hi there. This is Mandy, with a short Seattle Learning Academy promotional podcast, not an educational podcast.
I have exciting news for all of you who use the Sounds page of Pronuncian.com to practice individual sounds. I've created MP3 audio files and PDF files of all of the sound practice lists. You can now buy those files from the Pronuncian.com for only $10 US and put them on your computer or iPod or burn them to a CD. This is really a great deal. You get more than four and a half hours of audio practice and very convenient printable pages to help you practice your English pronunciation. Each sound has one MP3 file for that sound in the beginning, middle, and end of the word. When you play the file, you will hear the entire list of words for that sound being read, giving you time to repeat after each word. You will not have to play each individual word anymore!
If you've been thinking about buying the book, Pronunciation Pages: Sounds of American English, you can now get these MP3 files along with the book for only $5 more. You can still buy the ebook for $25 and you will have access to nearly a hundred audio exercises for the book online. Or, for $30, you get the ebook, the audio for the book exercises, and all of the MP3 files for the sounds practice. Another option is to buy just the MP3 files for $10. Although I am listing the price in US dollars, you can buy the book and MP3s in any currency that Paypal accepts, and Paypal now accepts nearly all the major currencies of the world.
I'll put a long a sound example online with the transcripts to this show, so you can see the PFD file and hear how the audio files are set up. Something else you will see in the PDF files that you can't see online with the sounds practice is homonyms. Homonyms are two words that are spelled differently, but sound the same. An example is rode (r-o-d-e) and road (r-o-a-d). I find a lot of students who are surprised about homonyms, and had been pronouncing the two words differently. The PDF files are a nice way to see when two different words sound the same. Even though I didn't create the lists to be a vocabulary building exercise, you will surely be introduced to new words, and this practice will help you increase your vocabulary. The words are the same words that are online, they are just in a more convenient format to practice when you are away from your computer.
Downloading the sound lists works the same as ebook purchases. After you make your purchase, paying with a credit card through Paypal, you will immediately receive an email with a link to the files for download. Because there are more than 4 hours of audio, the file has been zipped to make it smaller and easier to download. Still, it is a very big file, (about 270mb) and you can expect it to take a while to completely download. After it is downloaded, you can unzip the file and import the audio files into iTunes or whatever other MP3 software you're using on your computer. The files are yours to do whatever you want with, the same as any other digital medium you download. Of course, please don't give or sell them to other people. That would be an infringement of copyright.
I've been producing and publishing the American English Podcast for free for a few months now, and I intend to keep publishing a free weekly show so anyone in the world can have easy and free access to this information. I am really excited to see how many people around the world listen to the show. Please, help me to be able to keep publishing this show every week by buying an ebook for $25 or the MP3 files for $10, or both for $30.
Thanks for listening everyone, and don't miss this week's educational podcast. It will be a review of all the sounds we've studied so far. I was surprised when I was writing the show to see how much we've already learned!
That's all for now. This has been a Seattle Learning Academy Digital publication. Seattle Learning Academy is where the world comes to learn.
Bye-bye everyone.
